Unless you have done detailed analysis of how your competitors are ‘doing lots of business’ how can you be sure this is going to work for you. Your competitors may have an existing network of contacts and be building their business off the back of that, which can be done without a website.
The sad fact is that we estimate 95% of websites don’t work properly, we think that is down to one or more of the following:
- The website is not customer-centric (properly set up to serve your customers / potential customers’ needs).
- It is designed mainly to make the person buying the website and the website designer building the website ‘feel good’ and ‘be proud’ of their work. Sorry to point out the harsh truth, but your opinion and that of your website designer are nowhere near as important the opinions of your customers and potential customers!
- People are still designing websites in isolation, rather than as part of their overall business processes. A good website should give you proof that your marketing (both online and offline) is working properly and should integrate with your CRM system and support system (if you have those in place).
